John 4:34
“My food,” said Jesus, “is to do the will of him who sent me and to finish his work.”
In the book of Revelation Jesus says that He is standing at the door and knocking because He wants to come in and dine with each of us, as if to share a meal and fellowship together. If your life was a home, and the Lord came in to your dining room, what kind of food would you have for him to eat? Well, when He sat down, you would probably feed Him whatever you feed on.
Have you thought about your life that way? You and I feed on things around us every day and like our culture, we feed on money, news, celebrities, politics, careers, and entertainment, to name a few of the dishes we "serve" ourselves. These things fuel our interests, our motivations, our occupation, even our education. Influencers now use the classrooms, not just as a place of learning, but as a restaurant of indoctrination and many young people are being shaped by what they eat there.
But maybe you are not as careful about what you think about and just snack on mental junk food…like movies or social media…because it's convenient and lets you mentally escape into a place where you can be distracted. As followers of Jesus we are called to a life that is fueled by what God desires, and we are invited to eat food that will give us spiritual energy to do His will.
Is this just for the clergy or people in ministry? No, when God's Spirit entered your life at the moment you received Christ, you were given a new mission to do works that He designed for you as He directed you toward the purpose He made you for. There is no one on earth like you and the Lord has people He wants you to influence, needs He wants you to meet, thoughts He wants you to share that will be part of His plans for the life of someone else. You need to feed on His Word and get your energy from talking to Him.
So what should you do with the "pantry" in your house, the cupboard of your life? Clean out the distractions and junk food that are not pleasing to Him. Decide not to even bring that stuff in nor give it any of your valuable time. Spend more time snacking on a nourishing protein smoothie from His Word (like a new verse to memorize) so you can be ready to do His work.
