He is not a visitor, He wants to move in

Ephesians 3:17

so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith.

During the French Revolution of the late 1700's, atheists incited the mob to reject God and take down the government because the church and the ruling elite had become one large dominant power that oppressed the common people, full of corruption and greed. But this was no different than all religions of the world who craft their forms of worship and submission to make sure that their followers revere the institution above their own personal relationship with God. They collect huge sums of money and large properties that need support from a lot of people who will submit to them to prop this structure up.

When Christianity became the state religion of the Roman empire it was compelled to use this newly gained power. The individual got lost in the needs of the institution. But the Bible describes that the goal of the Lord Jesus is not to dwell in huge temples made with hands, or to wield power over the masses through big organizations, but to make His home, His dwelling place, in the hearts of individuals who receive Him, who believe in Him. He said that He stands at the door to our lives and knocks, as if waiting for someone to hear his request and open the door. He wants to be invited in and live there. He wants to come into the darkness and turn on the light. He wants to build a warm fire and banish the chill. He wants to provide strength where there was weakness that couldn't be strong. He wants your heart to hear the messages of love He has always offered, but you did not have ears to hear.

So what does it take for you to experience that kind of change? He is asking for each of us to totally surrender. This is not the request of a visitor who gets ignored when you get busy. Surrender means you give up all rights and let him be in control. He wants you to be filled up with the fullness of God and overflow so that others can experience it too as you live out the love of Christ. Faith in Him is the beginning of a different eternity where your life is changed and you experience a transformation from your old selfish ways to a new creation that looks like Jesus.
